Companies or individuals wishing to offer a vehicle and driver to carry passengers for hire or reward must obtain the appropriate license to do so.
In the event of an accident the insurance company will seek to verify that the operator was satisfying the law. And if not the operators insuracnce will be void.
Exemptions
Vehicles may be licensed in two ways either as a PHV or Private Hire Vehicle by the local authority, in which case a plate will be displayed either in or on the boot of the vehicle and there is no restriction on the type of work they can be provided for.
The alternative is PSV or Passenger Service Vehicle which is usually for vehicles of over 8 seats. In this case a license disc will be displayed in the windscreen of the vehicle.
Once a private hire vehicle operator license has been granted, the operator can then license any number of private hire vehicles.
You can check the validity of any private hire operator by calling the local authority and speaking to the licensing department. In the case of Hewkin Executive, you can call Cannock Chase District Council on 01543 462621.
